Test Report on Heating Requirements for Mushroom Projects
During our testing, we discovered that maintaining a cozy environment for mushroom cultivation in a 2m² area during the colder UK months requires 600-800 watts of heating power. This conclusion was drawn from tests conducted in an uninsulated grow tent located in an unheated room within a typical UK home. The goal was to maintain optimal temperatures for mushroom growth, particularly during the night, when temperatures can drop significantly.
Temperature is important
Many mushroom growers set up their projects in spare rooms, which are often unheated. We observed that in a well-heated room (18-22°C), around 240 watts of heating power is sufficient to maintain suitable temperatures for mushrooms. However, our testing revealed that 240 watts is inadequate for nighttime heating in colder conditions. This could lead to suboptimal growth or even delays in the mushroom cultivation process.
Overall
Based on these results, we recommend using a heater capable of producing 600-800 watts of power in unheated or poorly insulated spaces to ensure consistent temperatures, particularly during the night. Growers working in well-insulated or heated environments can manage with lower wattage heaters but should still monitor nighttime temperatures closely.
