Mushroom Growing Kits
A mushroom growing kit is a pre-prepared substrate or spawn system designed to take a grower from inoculation (or post-colonisation, depending on the kit) through to a harvestable flush without needing a full home lab setup. The right kit for you depends on how much of the process you want handled for you versus how much control you want over substrate composition, sterilisation and fruiting conditions.
Kit types in this category

Inject-and-forget grain bags – sterilised grain substrate in a filter-patch bag, ready for spore syringe or liquid culture inoculation. Fully colonises in 2–4 weeks at 21–24°C before being bulk-fruited direct from the bag or transferred to a monotub.
Monotub kits – bulk substrate (typically coir/vermiculite/gypsum, or grain-to-bulk) with a filter-patch lid, built for multiple flushes and higher total yield than a single grain bag. See our Monotubs range for tubs and lids sold separately.
PF Tek-style kits – jar or tub-based grain substrate, well suited to smaller fruiting chambers and first-time growers who want to learn colonisation and pinning cues on a smaller scale before scaling up.
All-in-one grow bags – substrate and spawn combined in one filter-patch bag, no transfer to a fruiting chamber required; the lowest-contamination-risk option since the substrate is never handled after leaving the bag.

What to check before you buy
Colonisation speed and contamination resistance both come down to substrate-to-spawn ratio and sterilisation quality, not just kit size. Grain-based kits colonise faster but carry more contamination risk if opened before full colonisation; bulk coir/vermiculite substrates are more forgiving but slower to fully colonise. Expect 65–90% relative humidity and daily fresh air exchange (FAE) at the fruiting stage regardless of kit type – a humidifier or heat mat makes a measurable difference to flush consistency, especially over a UK winter.
